Playing Catch-Up

So it’s been about three weeks since my last post, and entirely too much has happened since then to even begin to fully convey what’s been happening here in Kona. The weekends have been full of adventure, including swimming with dolphins, camping on the beach, driving to the top of Mauna Kea, swimming in freshwater lava caves, snorkeling, and surfing.

Last week I had the privilege of flying back to South Dakota to be a groomsman in my friends’ wedding. Michael and Lana finally tied the knot, and many of our Bozeman friends gathered in Rapid City for a great time of celebration. Continue Reading →

Cease from Striving

I could talk about how the Lord worked in our DTS last Friday to provide the remaining $16,000 that was still unpaid for lecture fees– in half an hour. (You try to get  that sort of cash out of a bunch of twenty-somethings at a missions school. God’s economy for the win!)

I could elaborate on the challenging teaching we had last night from a woman who has lived several decades in Asia sharing the love of Christ with drug addicts, homeless, and broken people.

I could talk about how I scored a free SCUBA lesson and hitchhiked to Costco Continue Reading →

There’s no place like Kona

There’s no way I can come close to conveying how incredible the past couple weeks have been–even the thought is daunting. I’ll just share a few highlights and see where it goes from there.

Biggest highlight?

I was too busy hanging out with Vladimir last weekend to write a blog post, but here’s my summary of the week that I wrote for our DTS website:

Religion to Rehab, and Fiji

Somehow a week has passed since my last post.

A week? Interesting.

The time has flown by, yet I feel like so much has changed and so many friendships have been established in a mere seven days. I’ll try to convey the essence of the past week…

The weekend was a time to settle in and explore a little. Continue Reading →

The Old and the New

Well, after 6 months of anticipation I’m finally here! It seemed like plane from Phoenix to Kona was half YWAM; it was great to begin getting to know people even before touching down on the island. It’s odd to return to a place I knew so well 11 years ago. Flashbacks and memories of our Crossroads school keep popping into my head. Time certainly has brought change to this place! Continue Reading →

It begins.

In 7 hours my 24-week journey begins with a flight to Phoenix and then to Kona, Hawaii. Anticipation has been building for months as many of us (the AWAKEN DTS students) have become acquainted over Facebook and shared our questions, challenges, and excitement. Having been to the YWAM Kona base a couple times before, I cannot wait to see what has changed and what remains the same. I know one thing will remain — the Lord’s presence and a pervasive sense of His joy in His people.

This post is titled “it begins”, but really, it continues. Continue Reading →
